A Moment of High Magic: with Lorain Fox Davis
In this episode, Elizabeth speaks with her dear friend and teacher, Lorain Fox Davis, both a Cree and Blackfeet elder. They talk about the how to identify the tremendous possibilities in home sheltering; the difference between aloneness and feeling isolated; the unstoppable movement of life; and the nature of prayer.
Lorain Fox Davis, is an elder in the Cree/ Blackfeet (Blackfoot) lineage.
She was born in 1938, in Browning MT.
She won a grammy award in 2008, for "Best Native American Music Album", "Come To Me Great Mystery”.
She is a published poet and Native artist, and taught Native American Studies at Naropa University, in Boulder, CO. for 9 years.
She was the Founder/Director of Rediscovery Four Corners, 1984-93; a non-profit serving Native American Youth and Elders, and Rediscovery Wilderness Leadership Camp for Youth, Board Member of Rediscovery International for 7 years.
For 15 years Lorain served as a Native American Elder with Chief Looking Horse, for World Peace and Prayer Day, in ceremonies at Sacred Sites around the world with Indigenous leaders.
She took refuge in 1981, and was married by Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and Chokyni Nyima Rinpoche, and has studied with major Buddhist teachers.
Lorain has a deep interest in the underlying truths shared by wisdom traditions around the world.
She has 7 children and 22 grandchildren and lives with her husband David, in Lakewood, CO.
