Matthieu Ricard was born in France in 1946, as the son of French philosopher Jean-François Revel and artist Yahne Le Toumelin, Matthieu Ricard is a Buddhist monk, author, translator, and photographer. He first visited India in 1967 where he met great spiritual masters from Tibet. After completing his Ph.D. in cell genetics in 1972, he moved to the Himalayan region where he has lived since then. He is the author of numerous books including The Monk and the Philosopher, Happiness, Altruism, and Notebooks of a Wandering Monk, ten volumes of translation from the Tibetan language, and a dozen albums as a photographer. He has been an active participant in the scientific research on the effects of mind training on the brain. He has given the totality of the proceedings of his books and activities to support humanitarian projects in India, Nepal and Tibet, through Karuna-Shechen, the organization he founded in 2000, which now benefits 500,000 people every year.

Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel has studied and practiced the Buddhadharma for over 35 years under the guidance of her root teacher Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche. She is the author of two books, The Power of an Open Question and The Logic of Faith.

She edited two books by Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, It’s Up to You and Light Comes Through , Elizabeth has taught programs throughout the world and is a teacher in Mangala Shri Bhuti.

After completing a six year retreat, Kongtrul RInpoche appointed her Retreat Master at the Samten Ling retreat center in Colorado. She holds degrees in Anthropology (BA) and Buddhist Studies (MA).

Elizabeth founded a secular nonprofit organization called The Middle Way Initiative to offer teachings, retreats, and conversations with her and other teachers and guests. With Anam Thubten, she is a founding member and teacher in the Wilderness Dharma Movement.

MATTHIEU RICARD
Nasceu na França em 1946. Filho do filósofo francês Jean-François Revel e da artista Yahne Le Toumelin, Matthieu Ricard é monge budista, escritor, tradutor e fotógrafo. Em 1967 visitou a Índia pela primeira vez, onde conheceu grandes mestres espirituais do Tibete. Em 1972, após concluir seu doutorado em genética celular, mudou-se para a região dos Himalaias, onde vive desde então. É autor de inúmeros livros, entre eles “O Monge e o Filósofo”, “Felicidade – A Prática do Bem-estar”, “A Revolução do Altruísmo”, e “Notebooks of a Wandering Monk”. Além disso, traduziu dez volumes de ensinamentos da língua tibetana e produziu uma dezena de álbuns de fotografia. Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel estuda e pratica o Buddhadharma há mais de 35 anos sob a orientação de seu professor-raiz, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche. É autora de dois livros: “O Poder de uma Pergunta Aberta” e “A Lógica da Fé”. 

Editou dois livros de Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche: “It’s Up to You” e “Light Comes Through”. Elizabeth oferece ensinamentos em programas no mundo todo e é professora na Mangala Shri Bhuti.

Depois que Elizabeth concluiu um retiro de seis anos, Kongtrul Rinpoche nomeou-a Mestre de Retiros no Centro de Retiros Samten Ling, no Colorado. Ela é formada em Antropologia (BA) e em Estudos Budistas (MA).
